www or the world wide web has created a virtual world which in turns has produced a new breed of criminals who are called Cyber-criminals. We have tried to explained this our article Cyber security issues series-1.

The cyber-criminal has no face and uses the keyboard as his weapon as he knows that the best way to breach defenses is to trick the user by misrepresentation, inducement or any other unfair means. They resort to cleverly worded email, to fake websites, and snail mails as everyone on the webs is a potential target.

The process of inducing the Web users is named as social engineering and it attacks each time you open your email or browse on a website and sometimes installs codes which are hidden and remain working without your knowledge. To effectively defend yourself, you need to be more aware of just how much personal information about you is publicly available via the Web and learn to control the information so that it cannot be used against you, your friends, or your family.

• Any Password created by you for your access to various sites, portals etc is very important and vital. While creating password one should use innovative and hard to guess characters instead of simply using 1,2,3,4 or abcd etc as such passwords are cracked easily. While creating passwords, be very particular about use of special characters, capital letters, symbols etc as they provide more safety and are tough to be guessed. Password once created should always be guarded with utmost care and should not be shared with anyone casually; if shared under compelling circumstances then the password should be changed at the earliest possible time.

• Another way of safeguarding is to keep changing your password very often to avoid any accident slip but do not note down the password on your desk, calendar etc. which can be read by any other person.

• Change your password which was being used by your employee once he leaves the job.

• In case you are getting some self-generated password from any platform after your registration, change it to give it more security. Always use the unique question or peculiar question attached to password safety; it enhances the chances of recovery in case of any breach.

• Do not share the passwords through mail, its unsafe. Use other means of communication and try some innovative tricks.

• If some other site asks for your password etc, please do not provide it under any circumstances. Such websites are often fake and harvest passwords in mass by misleading people.

• If someone calls you from any website, company, bank and requests you for password; do not share the same at all, in most of the cases they are fraudsters.

• Please be aware that internet cafe and other public domains are often found indulged in stealing your password through software installed on their computers, as you type your passwords , it is stored in their computers. Use copy paste method for your password while working on public computers; keep your password in a file and copy paste it on the portal instead of typing it on the computer. Use the HTTP protocol and disable auto-login on the public computers and do not forget to delete the browsing history and the cookies, auto forms etc after your surfing session.

• Since it is a virtual world, it can be false, misleading, fake or fictitious hence it is imperative that the user of the web is aware about the dos and donts on the web and protect his interest. We have tried to categorize the advice in various forms depending upon the category of users and this series is dealing with such issues.

PASSWORD SAFETY:

In the event of any incident of hacking, consult a good cyber expert or a cyber law as stitch in time saves nine as a cyber expert or a cyber lawyer can comprehend the problem and advice you on the matter accordingly.
